Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is Hiring a Cook Near Homer, IL

LSSI is hiring a full-time Cook at the West Shady Oaks location. Prepare and serve meals to facility clients in accordance with menu plans, using standardized recipes and in accordance with clients' physician prescribed diets.
Schedule as follows and varies with a 2-hour shift break
6 am to 12pm and 2pm to 6pm Monday, Wednesday and Sunday

Essential Functions: 
  • Following menu plans, for specified quantities using standardized recipes.
  • Keep assigned work area clean and follow all sanitation guidelines.
  • Perform all duties following safety guidelines and requirements in accordance with regulatory, licensing, accreditation and agency standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness standards in the cooler, freezer, and overall kitchen areas.
  • Maintain inventory of food, equipment and supplies in the kitchen area.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest and fair manner.
Position Qualifications: 
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Background check clearance required.
  • Food Sanitation Certificate, or ability to obtain, required.
  • Experience in commercial or institutional cooking required.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions/directions and to work with minimal supervision required.
  • Experience operating kitchen equipment and appliances in a safe manner required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing.
